Rethink campaign celebrates workers who get travellers where they need to be over the holidays

The holiday season is a busy time for Canadians, and it might surprise you that one in four Canadians are separated from their loved ones during this period. This year, WestJet is giving back to selfless holiday workers who, year after year, help us get where we need to be, sacrificing time with their own loved ones so we can be with ours.

WestJet has been making the impossible possible for the last 11 years with its holiday ‘Christmas Miracle’ campaigns, and this year, it’s doing so again by reuniting holiday workers with their families. WestJet surprised three holiday workers in the industries supporting travel by reuniting them with their loved ones at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and captured their heart warming reunions live, which you can watch here. The campaign includes a long-form film (3 minutes), as well as a 30s cut-down, a 15s teaser and a 10s nomination video. It will air across broadcast, cinema, online and social, as well as on WestJet’s owned channels.

These heroes are often faced with busier hours due to the holidays. They live far from their family or friends, often making reuniting for the holidays difficult. Further, this holiday season, the airline is inviting Canadians to nominate their holiday hero who is working away from loved ones, for an opportunity to connect them. Nominations are open at WestJet.com/ChristmasMiracle.

“We wanted to show how getting Canadians to the people and places that matter most to them over the holidays was a true team effort across the entire travel and hospitality industry. While airlines, like WestJet, play a huge role, there’s an entire community of people that also make it happen that we wanted to shine a light on,” said Leia Rogers, executive creative director and partner, Rethink. “Our approach centred around featuring real people and - very - meticulous planning to orchestrate heartfelt reunions without revealing the surprise to our unsuspecting heroes. I couldn’t be prouder of the team for pulling this one off!”
