Dodgy piano playing does the trick in ad by AMV BBDO and RSA’s Jim Field Smith

AMV BBDO has produced a new campaign to communicate GALAXY®’s partnership with Amazon Kindle in a 30” TVC and OOH print campaign. The idea, communicated through a brand led approach to a promotional campaign, is that GALAXY helps to extend the pleasure of reading.

GALAXY® and reading make the perfect companions. Now, with a free Kindle e-book offer on single bars and the chance to win a Kindle on larger bars, GALAXY® demonstrates an even more astute understanding of modern readers.

The TVC, which breaks on 23rd February for five weeks, shows the modern GALAXY® heroine enjoying a Kindle e-book in a favourite spot, while a piano is being played peacefully in the background. The quiet is interrupted by a group of rowdy revellers, who have clearly walked into the wrong place. The GALAXY® girl, annoyed at the disruption, spots her bar of chocolate and has an idea. She walks over to the piano player, who graciously gives up his seat. She sits down and begins to play. Badly. The unashamedly rubbish “music” brings the intruding crowd to their senses and they depart, leaving the remaining customers in peace and our heroine to return to her e-book and bar of GALAXY®.

The accompanying print campaign provides moments of reading pleasure in unexpected places. It mimics the tone of famous literary genres, from works of Jane Austen and Dickens to Steinbeck, cleverly embedding the e-book offer within the copy. With five executions running across 48S and 6S, this print campaign celebrates the enjoyment that reading (and GALAXY®) can bring.
