Race was formerly Head of UX & Design at British Gas

Jaywing has announced the hire of Alex Race as Head of User Experience (UX). Formerly Head of UX & Design at British Gas, where Race headed up the 25-strong User Experience & Design team; he brings with him far-reaching expertise to add to the agency’s already well-established UX credentials.

Jaywing’s UX work has a particular focus on cross-platform design, ensuring that all Jaywing projects provide their clients’ customers with the best possible experience, across all digital touchpoints. Race will manage the delivery of user research, early stage concepting and requirements gathering, as well as information architecture design and wireframing to both existing and new Jaywing clients.

Race’s thirteen years of experience client side will bring expert consulting and even greater value to Jaywing’s clients, which include PepsiCo, Merlin Entertainments, Sky and The Open University.

During his time with British Gas, Race developed the user experience and design functions, and delivered digital experiences across the company’s multi-channel offerings. Prior to British Gas, Race worked in UX for Nokia Mobile Phones for nine years, cementing his depth in understanding of brands and the application of UX.

Commenting on Race’s appointment, Brían Taylor, Digital Managing Director said: “With UX a key part of the agency’s make up for some years, getting the right person to lead this area was crucial.  Alex is a key hire for us and we’re delighted he made the move from British Gas to Jaywing. He brings impressive UX experience from a brand setting, where the users range from electricity, gas and homecare customers who have numerous sales and customer servicing needs, to Hive users who control their heating from their mobile devices. As this complex product range and variety of customers requires both a breadth and depth of UX knowledge, Alex will bring new insights to our team.”

Alex Race added: “Not only did Jaywing’s commitment to UX and established, forward-thinking design and build methodologies appeal, the opportunity to work with a range of other blue-chip companies is incredibly exciting.  What’s more, Jaywing’s philosophy to marketing as a whole and its focus on the combination of data, science and creativity to deliver exacting experiences that delight is a refreshing approach and something I wanted to be part of.   I can see the huge opportunities right now to create high quality UX for the agency’s clients and Jaywing’s nature as a place to build relevant inspiring UX and drive it to the right audience was a key factor in my decision. With such strong capabilities, Jaywing presents a unique opportunity to develop my skills further and deliver an offering that adds massive benefit to clients.”
