The production service company selects Sweden as the next country within their growing Northern European remit

Production service company Truenorth today announces its long awaited expansion into Sweden. Founded in Iceland in 2003, Truenorth has spent the past two decades establishing itself as the premier production service company in Northern Europe, offering its services in Norway, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Finland and the Canary Islands. Having already worked successfully on both drama and commercial productions in the Nordic countries, the expansion in Sweden was a natural next step, and Truenorth will now officially be open for business in the summer.

Sweden is laden with potential as a shooting location for commercial, episodic and longform filming, boasting picturesque landscapes, an array of historical landmarks and plenty of modern Scandinavian infrastructure to suit a wide range of genres and narratives. Looking beyond the geographical attributes of the country, the country is rich in casting opportunities, with Stockholm being a creative hub for music, fashion and culture.

Creativity in the country is on the rise, following the anticipated 25% Swedish production rebate greenlit by the Swedish Parliament. The scheme, administered by Tillväxtverket (Swedish Agency for Economic Growth), has an annual budget of SEK100m (approximately €9.2m) and puts the country in line with other Nordic filming nations such as Finland, Iceland and Norway. In addition, Sweden is a cost-effective filming location, offering great value for money in regard to film equipment, studios, cast and special effects.

The vast array of locations on offer in Sweden

The Swedish team will be headed up by executive producer Peter Kydd and creative producer Christopher von Reis. The duo were first introduced to the Truenorth network in 2020, whilst shooting an American Express commercial in Iceland through Von-Film, the production company they founded together in 2014. With a wealth of film expertise and experience working with companies both abroad and within Sweden, the pair are well suited to represent Truenorth as it enters an exciting new region.

Jón Bjarni Guðmundsson, executive producer at Truenorth, comments: “We can’t wait to put Sweden on the map for creative filmmaking, and make it a go-to place for great film production services. Truenorth has a vast wealth of knowledge and experience from the other markets that we work within, that we will bring with us to Sweden. Having recently serviced How to Train Your Dragon in the Faroe Islands and bid for commercials and long-form in Finland and Norway, we’re excited to see how this new location complements our offering.”
