Music Video Takes You on a Dreamy Journey Through Barcelona in Lockdown

The new music video for Manel's 'L'amant Malalta' (The Sick Lover) is a dreamy journey on the empty, nocturnal streets of curfewed Barcelona, drawing up surrealistic images arising from the director’s lockdown, and other melancholic experiences. 

Anna Szijártó, executive producer of the music video from Kinomoto says: “It's interesting that a whole year has passed since day one of the pandemic hitting Europe and the lockdown that ensued, and this is the very first piece we shot that was clearly inspired by it. Maybe the directors we work with found the topic too obvious, or maybe we’ve all been simply tired of the fact that Covid-19 is overwhelmingly everywhere. It's funny though that from reading the articles and comments on the video, we quickly found out that people gave a symbolic, Covid-inspired meaning to all of the images, even to those that are purely there because they're poetic and aesthetic. I guess it’s just satisfying to project our own lockdown-frustrations to a song and some beautiful images. When producing low-budget music videos it's always a headache to make the streets look as the director wants - this time the lockdown actually added a huge production value to the end result.”
