Campaign from GUT challenges one of the oldest stereotypes in the book: that flowers are only meant to be given to women

This Valentine’s Day, DoorDash is collaborating with creative powerhouse GUT Los Angeles to shake up the traditional idea that flowers are only for men to give -- and not receive. The campaign, titled 'Flowers are for Every Valentine,' takes a playful spin on the notion that most men don’t receive their first flowers until their funeral.

'Flowers are for Every Valentine' features animated men returning from the grave and singing a humorous song expressing the joy of receiving flowers while still alive. The catchy chorus encourages viewers to celebrate everyone, including men, while they are still here and concludes with living men happily receiving Valentine's bouquets through DoorDash, affirming the celebration of life through shared flowers.

“Building off the success of last year’s Valentine’s Day campaign, we worked closely with GUT to empower people to express love and appreciation to all the special people in their lives,” said Mariota Essery, executive creative director at DoorDash. “‘Flowers are for Every Valentine’ disrupts the traditional narrative around the gift of flowers on this special day, and invites everyone to expand their love languages.”

“Flowers are a timeless expression of love, but somewhere along the way they became limited in who was traditionally on the receiving end of the gift,” said Teddy Notari, group account director at GUT. “We really wanted to work with DoorDash, which is such a bold and forward-thinking brand, to challenge those expectations by being playful and showing that flowers are for everyone, including men.”

Showering your loved ones with flowers has never been easier. To celebrate, starting February 9th until February 15th, DoorDash users can access 20% off 2 flower orders (up to $15 off) with code HEART20.* Plus, find additional floral and gift deals from neighbourhood favourites in-app now through Valentine’s Day.
