Devised by Jasper and Terra Twin in close collaboration, the eclectic video plays on the title, exploring the concept of intrusive thoughts bleeding into real life. It follows a physical representation of the character that weaves these thoughts in our minds: a tatted protagonist who journeys down London’s colourful Golborne Road, befriending roller skaters, sharing a pint with a dog, and riding circles in fairy wings.
Golborne Road provided the perfect shoot location, encapsulating the film’s concept which was actually dreamt up there. Playing a large role in its inspiration, Jasper came up with the narrative while watching the street’s many interesting characters pass by, wondering what they were thinking and where they were going.
With casting crucial to such a film, the team searched far and wide for its star, asking actors to dance to their favourite sound. The promo’s hero, Warren Loader, gave it his all and was an instant hit. The two skaters seen in the video were a spontaneous addition on the day of the shoot, scouted by one of the band members at a corner shop nearby.
The music video was shot on 16mm film, lending it a nostalgic, summer haze aesthetic. With only a few takes per shot, it put pressure on the performance on the day while also bringing out an element of raw authenticity in the characters.
Jasper Cable-Alexander comments: “This was very much a collaboration, like many of my other films. I always love to collaborate with artists in creating a vision for their music videos. We spent a month preparing the idea together and really focused closely on casting the right character; it was working closely together that led to the final concept.”
