Brazilian design studio's scenic illustrations of Realtor.com's 'Hottest ZIP Codes 2023' are inspired by vintage tourism posters

Choosing where to live, be it a city or a specific property, is always a big decision. With this in mind, Realtor.com, a company whose mission for over 25 years has been to create a real estate market for everyone, invited Brazilian design studio Black Madre to participate in its recent campaign, 'The Hottest ZIP Codes 2023'. Based on data collected in annual surveys, the online real estate platform highlighted the top 10 locations to live in the United States, and asked Black Madre to produce some illustrations that show them off - from Pittsford, New York to Trenton, Michigan and beyond.

Accepting Realtor.com's invitation, the São Paulo-based studio and its team of illustrators drew 11 key arts that portray the top 10 locations that the survey identified as the most sought-after places to live this year. Studying the local environments and their most well-known geographical or historical landmarks, Black Madre rose to the challenge of accurately capturing the essence and energy of the different 'ZIP Codes', while also expressing just how inviting these places are through the textures, colours and other design choices made throughout the artwork.

Most prominently, the visual aesthetics of the illustrations were inspired by and cross-referenced with vintage tourism posters, and were then elevated by the team's final delivery by applying textures and intricate detail into each of the compositions. This brought a creative and craft-forward look that not only exceeded Realtor.com and Black Madre's expectations in terms of the campaign's visual stylings, but which also reflected the unique appearances and charms of the towns and cities being depicted.

In a statement about the project, a Black Madre spokesperson said, "The result couldn't have been more satisfactory, the pieces were beautiful, and the final objective was achieved."
