As the actors look up at the end of Sky’s promo for new drama series, ‘The Tunnel’, an impossible camera move rips us up through the tunnel roof, the seabed, the channel and up to a satellite shot of Britain and France whilst blood continues to ooze from the border with rivulets extending across the land mass. It soon forms the shape of a victim as if marked out in chalk whilst the blood continues to run in an arterial form.
Phil explains ‘A number of real elements were shot on set in a vfx shoot such as burning steel wool wrapped over a scratched perspex tube to create the synapse flash frames or an LED torch played upon the scratches of the tube which created light plays for the eye shots. These were all to enhance the CGI-generated tunnel journey whilst the satellite image consisted of a CGI globe with a particle-based fluid system used to create the flow of blood to form the body and the arterial look of the blood vessels / road network.’
