Millions of South African girls miss up to a week of school every month because they can’t afford sanitary pads and use substitutes like leaves sand and newspaper. NGO One School at a Time created a direct mailer targeting the world’s largest pad provider, Always, to bring their Keeping Girls In School Programme to Iterele-Zenzele, the impoverished school that they work with. The mailer tweaked Always’ own packaging design to highlight the shocking reality and consequences of not having sanitary wear. The mailer was a success and moved Always to bring their programme and make a big difference to the girls.
