Zurich Insurance is launching “Gator Golf,” an online video tutorial series that humorously instructs golfers how to play in close proximity to deadly alligators.
Created by McCann Worldgroup to create buzz about the upcoming PGA Tour, Zurich Classic of New Orleans, the videos parody popular online golf tutorials and play off the fact that a 12-foot alligator famously walked onto the course during last year’s games.
As part of Zurich Insurance’s new global platform ”For Those Who Truly Love,” the premise behind “Gator Golf” is that those who truly love golf continue playing even when an alligator is on the course.
Golfing and alligator expert Jim Shanks offers absurd solutions in seven lessons. In one, he instructs golfers to turn their backs on the alligator to keep it “out of sight, out mind.” In another, he suggests it is wise to bring a good supply of raw steaks.
“Gator Golf,” the social component of a larger integrated campaign that includes TV, print, online advertising and a microsite, will appear on YouTube and on the microsite in the lead up to the tournament, which takes place April 24 – 27. It will be supported with online advertising and social media postings by Zurich-sponsored professional golfers. You can view the playlist featuring all of the 'tutorials' below
