This American football season, Campbell’s Chunky is adding an exciting twist to its iconic “Mama’s Boy” campaign by featuring Richard Sherman, Seattle Seahawks cornerback and defending Super Bowl champion, alongside his actual mom, Beverly, along with four charismatic super fans who together embark on an adventure. Throughout the 17-year campaign, only a handful of NFL players have been featured alongside their actual moms, including Michael Strahan, Donovan McNabb and now, Richard Sherman.
The new integrated campaign from Y&R New York centers around “Mama Sherman and the Legion of Super Fans.” The two-minute online film, “Copter Caper,” features Mama Sherman and four actual, loyal Seahawks fans who do everything in their power to make sure their favorite gridiron hero gets his Chunky soup before the big game. Created in a style reminiscent of the 1960’s Batman TV series, versions of the film will also air as 30 and 15 second TV spots, which will encourage viewers to see the full epic adventure at Chunky.com.
In the coming weeks, Campbell will also introduce its first-ever animated video for Chunky soup, featuring cartoon versions of the cast, as imagined by renowned illustrator J.J. Sedelmaier. Of note, Sedelmaier is the co-creator of SNL’s "Saturday TV Funhouse," which launched the famous “Ambiguously Gay Duo” and “The X-Presidents” animated skits.
The TV spots are airing during sports-related programming on Fox, NFL TV and other networks, with digital ads running across Yahoo! Sports, ESPN, NFL and Hulu, to name a few. Football and soup fans can visit the Chunky Tumblr page for additional content and information regarding the campaign.
