Sterling silver trophy was inspired by the UEFA Nations League logo, a first for a UEFA competition

Young & Rubicam Branding Designs UEFA Nations League Tournament Trophy
Y&R Branding, a Y&R Group agency, has designed the Trophy for UEFA’s new competition – the UEFA Nations League.

The UEFA Nations League Trophy has been unveiled at the 2018/19 League Phase draw in Lausanne.

The Trophy was revealed on stage by UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin just prior to the draw. It has been inspired by the UEFA Nations League logo, a first for a UEFA competition. 


The flag that represents all 55 UEFA national associations competing within the promotion/relegation format is elegantly wrapped around a flag pole.


The Trophy is entirely made of sterling silver that on the inside carries the competition colours. The reflection of these colours on the silver surface is one of the characteristics that make this Trophy unique 

The Trophy weighs in at 7.5kg and is 71cm tall; it will be lifted by its first winners in June 2019.

Because of its shape, the UEFA Nations League Trophy had to be handmade using several different techniques. According with the Manufacturer company, it was the most challenging Trophy they have ever produced. 

Hélder Pombinho, Y&R Branding’s Creative Director, said: “The first thing we want is for people to understand what lifting this trophy represents.

“It’s the pinnacle of a nation - the raising of a flag. And when we see this trophy being lifted, we are watching the flag of all nations being raised, as the high point of winning this tournament.”

Pedro Gonzalez, Managing Director of Y&R added: “It’s not every day that we can design a trophy for such a relevant tournament.

“As a branding agency, we believe that all brand assets should serve the purpose of strengthen its identity. This is the furthest we have gone so far fulfilling that purpose and we’re really proud of the final result.”

The 55 national teams have been divided into four leagues in accordance with UEFA’s national association co-efficient rankings. League A includes top-ranked sides; League D includes the lowest. 

The Finals will be played by each of the winners of the four groups of the UEFA Nations League A to determine the UEFA Nations League winner. 

The UEFA Nations League is to be played every two years, between the EURO and the World Cup. The first edition of the tournament’s group stage runs from September to November 2018. The Finals will be played in June 2019.
