The combination of a ‘90s hit and a classic fast food dish is all that McDonald’s NZ needed to make a winning ad, writes LBB’s Alex Reeves
It’s the simple pleasures that bring me the most joy. And that applies to advertising too. Which is why I love DDB New Zealand’s 15-second announcement about McDonald’s opening for delivery and drive-thru. A Big Mac, looking about as enticing as possible (absence makes the heart grow fonder, so that’s quite enticing), soundtracked by ‘90s chart-topper ‘Return of the Mack’ by Mark Morrison. That’s the idea, basically. And it makes me long for the day McDonald’s reopens so, so bad. The other good ads this week were a bit more complicated, but all of them had equally simple truths at their centre.
