Over the past year, many of us around the world have sought out solace in the rhythms of nature. And for those lucky enough to have a garden or allotment, growing vegetables is one of the most rewarding ways to do that. It's no doubt one of the factors that has propelled Gerald Stratford, https://twitter.com/geraldstratfor3 champion gardener, to unexpected social media stardom. That and his relentless charm and passion for veg growing.
As someone whose London windowsill is currently verdant with courgette, tomato and chilli pepper seedlings that will soon need to be planted up in a friend’s vegetable patch, it filled my heart with joy to see Gerald starring as the perfect choice of influencer to promote Gucci’s OFF THE GRID capsule collection, which is designed with environmentalism in mind, using only recycled, organic, bio-based and sustainably sourced materials.
In a sumptuous film directed by Fiona Jane Burgess though COMPULSORY, Gerald guides a cast of city dwellers through his garden and shows them how to cultivate their own food. It’s a springtime vibe I’m here for.
That was just one highlight in a week of relatable, human and compassionate creativity, ranging from P&G’s provocative-yet-beautiful depiction of Black life from Grey New York, through to a brace of expert slapstick vignettes directed for Apple by Kim Gehrig.
