In this campaign for Travel Portland, Wieden+Kennedy Portland gathered some of the city's artists, writers, craft brewers and doughnut connoisseurs to create zine guides such as '34 Things to Do in the Rain' and 'The Feminist's Guide to Beer Drinking'. Working in collaboration with WIZZ's New York based partner Blacklist, the animation collective CRCR brought them to life.
In keeping with the free spirited approach to zines, no limit was placed on the production techniques used. Falling plates of pasta, hiking boots, donuts, a pint of beer, and a "monster" hand were filmed in studio and animated in stop motion, while other elements were created using 3D, 2D drawings and matte paintings.
This openness and enthusiasm to different techniques is a reflection of how CRCR naturally work as a team, and is also the key to the handmade feel and infectious energy of this campaign.
