With
summer well and truly over, LS Productions reflects on a season of hard work
as Britain’s fashion retailers showcase - and major publications cover - their
Autumn/Winter 2015 collections.
The
service production company’s stills department has worked with a number of
brands this year - including Mr Porter, Hobbs, Toast, Harper’s Bazaar, Stella
McCartney and Crew Clothing - to produce stunning lookbooks and advertising campaigns
that utilise the hidden corners of Scotland.
For
over a decade the LS team has been producing stills campaigns for some of
advertising’s biggest names, with their highly experienced team able to cater
for shoots across a whole host of industries – including automotive, drinks,
food, lifestyle, sport and travel. It’s no wonder then that many fashion
brands, from both the UK and beyond, are turning to Scotland as their campaign
destination.
For
Michelle Methven, Senior Producer at LS Productions, it’s Scotland’s
breath-taking landscapes, dramatic colour palette and incredible light that is
so attractive to brands. During the spring and summer seasons parts of the
Scottish landscape are adorned with autumnal hues, unlike the rest of the UK
which enjoys its greenest months of the calendar. This secret USP makes Scotland the ideal
setting for brands and retailers, allowing them to shoot their Autumn/Winter
campaigns well in advance.
Much
like the clothes themselves, there have been trends in the locations that have
been used, notes Michelle: “We’ve noticed a great demand for modern
architectural properties throughout Scotland, which people are only now
beginning to know about – even though we’ve been bringing them on as potential
locations for many years now. Features such as remote lochs and boat sheds have
also been hugely popular this year. Our location library is expanding as we’re
capturing a more diverse offering of Scotland and the UK.”
LS
Productions has always taken the discovery of locations for future shoots
seriously, gathering contacts and aesthetics since the company was founded in
2006.This year LS set up a dedicated Locations department led by Location
Manager Amy Morement. The department has increased the efficiency of
production, making location scouting faster and allowing for a greater range of
locations to be showcased.
Amy
oversees the company’s unique location library; comprised of over 100,000
images with an ever-expanding variety of aesthetics. Having never been a
separate entity, the investment in the department demonstrates how seriously LS
take location scouting. Due to client demands Amy is investing part of her time
looking for hotspots around the UK to offer a wider location service to both
returning and new clients.
For
Amy, it’s the diverse yet compact nature of Scotland’s offering that can aid
fashion brands: “The breadth of locations available within a short distance of
each other is astounding, from dramatic landscapes and heritage railways to
Scandinavian-style cabins and local businesses that have been run by the same
family for generations. It’s wonderful to work on these briefs and provide a
perfect snapshot of rural Scottish life for our clients.”
Michelle
comments: “It’s been wonderful to be working more and more with these high
profile British brands over the years and service produce with some fantastic
agencies and some seriously creative teams.
“This
might be our favourite time of year, as all the autumn and winter campaigns we’ve
been working on here in the UK are being released; everybody can finally see
what we’ve been up to!”
