LBB caught up with McCann Manchester’s joint head of LIVE, Calum MacDonald-Ball for his thoughts on the winners on social following the UK prime minister’s resignation yesterday

As the conservative leader’s 44 days in office came to a public and some may say humiliating end yesterday, social channels including Twitter came alive with engaging and reactive responses from leading brands.

Many asked the question – what lasted longer? Kim Kardashian’s marriages? Jedward’s time on The X Factor? Or of course that famous 60p lettuce shared with the nation thanks to the Daily Star’s You Tube feed.

So, who were the front runners? Ryanair and Airbnb were two of Calum’s favourite responses, landing witty visuals with brilliant timing whilst remaining free from any political bias.

"The key to success? It’s all about playing on the right side of the conversation, understanding your audience and steering away from the politics. Speed is imperative, anyone trying to jump on it today is too late, but I’m sure there will be plenty more opportunities over the coming weeks."

Calum is joint head of LIVE, McCann’s social media division and partner to Aldi. Aldi’s response to the PM’s resignation received 100,000 likes in just under five and a half hours.
