Jono’s quick wit, nuanced characters, and spot on comedic timing have earned him international acclaim

Westside Studio announces the signing of Jono Hunter to its commercial roster, for exclusive Canadian representation. Known for his dialogue and performance-driven comedy, Jono’s work embraces the unexpected. From subtle, awkward moments to the most bizarre, surreal situations, Jono finds comedy everywhere.

Born and raised in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Jono Hunter spent his formative years travelling North America and Europe with a handful of DIY punk bands. From film school to working on commercial sets, Jono quickly found his way behind the camera.

Jono utilizes every resource to craft compelling and hilarious stories, with carefully casted actors, thoughtful production design, nuanced performance, dynamic camera work and a whip-smart edit. Jono works collaboratively with a crew of amazing folks, making every spot and production a memorable one.

“Jono is exactly the local comedy talent we have been keeping an eye out for, his work is comedic, smart, and unconventional. We could not be more excited to welcome him to the roster and we cannot wait to get to work,” says Westside executive producer, Amanda Morrison.

Jono has collaborated with brands including Nintendo, Budweiser, TurboTax, Telus, NHL, and KitKat. He has directed celebrities like Annie Murphy, Chance the Rapper, and Joel Embiid. Jono has studied and performed with the renowned Judith Weston Studio for Actors and Directors, Upright Citizens Brigade, and Second City, where he continues to perform.

“We’ve been long admirers of Jono’s work, and comedic voice. We couldn’t be more excited to work with him here at Westside,” says Ellie Winston, executive producer, Westside Studio. “His ability to approach each project with enthusiasm, precision, and collaboration results in great spots, that are a joy to bring to life.”

Jono Hunter adds that the move to Westside “is an opportunity to grow as a filmmaker with a studio with the same youthful fervour that drives my own work. The sense of community here is palpable and my existing, working relationships with Ellie and Amanda makes Westside a fitting new home.”
