Young football fans from around the world declare their allegiance to Manchester United—each proclaiming “I play for Manchester United” while wearing the team jersey—in a new Chevrolet commercial from Commonwealth//McCann, Detroit.
The 60-second film began running on broadcast and social channels last weekend to coincide with a special event at Manchester United’s first Premier League match. Eleven kids from across the globe—dubbed as “mascots” because of their dedication to the team— took to the field at Old Trafford stadium with their football idols and swapped shirts with them just before the game. Fans can also get a taste of what its like to sign on to Manchester United in a digital extension of the campaign. Hopefuls can upload a photo of their face to receive a video of themselves arriving at Old Trafford in a brand new Chevrolet Corvette, taking a press conference with Wayne Rooney, meeting the rest of the lads in the locker room, and participating in practice drills on the pitch. The content is designed to be shared in social channels.
The “Power of Play” effort is part of Chevrolet’s “What Do You #PlayFor” campaign, which brings football fans closer to the sport and spreads the power of play around the world.
