Caroline Tomlinson asked the directing duo
Reuben Armstrong and Jamie Neale to direct, shoot and edit her new film for 2020. The brief was to capture the spirit of both Caroline's work and unique approach to being an illustrator.
Voiced by Caroline the pair were given a rare opportunity to get into the head of an award-winning illustrator and artist. Full of character and spirit, this energetic and playful film is as much a dive into the mind of a creative as it is an exploration of Caroline's working process.
We are introduced to not only Caroline's work but her love for travel, life and all things creative. We get to see the inner workings of her creative studio and the process that makes her work unique.
Just like Caroline, the film is full of surprising creative moments. Flourishes of skilfully illustrated work combined with beautifully inky moments of trial and error. Using a blend of playful animation, photography and live-action the film puts the viewer at the centre of Caroline's world.
Illustrating, animating and documenting style and culture is a life-long passion project for Caroline. Sketchbook and passport are inseparable for this London based wanderlust obsessed creative.
Working with a creative who is constantly travelling can make planning shoot days difficult. So, with limited time, a small crew and two full shoot days, the duo captured enough content for a short film, a range of GIFS and a series of Instagram stories.
