VSO, the international development organisation that fights poverty through volunteers, has today announced its appointment of search and social media agency, DBD Media, as the organisation’s search marketing partner in the UK. DBD Media won the account after a competitive pitch.
DBD Media’s initial task is to dovetail use of highly targeted PPC (pay-per-click) advertising and SEO (search engine optimisation) strategies to increase donations and candidate registrations. The agency has been briefed to reach a specific number of donations and registrations within a 12-month period.
VSO is a development organisation that helps overcome poverty through volunteers in 33 of the world’s poorest countries. Volunteering overseas with VSO gives people a chance to play an active role in the fight against poverty, using their skills where they are most needed.
The organisation urgently needs to recruit professionals with the right skills to work with partners in poor and marginalised communities, including midwives, paediatricians, teachers and people from other professions including IT. Digital marketing plays a key role in attracting new volunteers and promoting its work to donors and supporters.
Simon Honnor, Digital Marketing Manager @ VSO comments: “VSO’s unique approach to fighting poverty means we need to recruit the right kind of volunteers, as well as attracting donations to fund our work in 33 of the world’s poorest countries. Search marketing plays a big part in helping us do that. And as an international development organisation it’s important that VSO gets good value for money from every penny we spend. DBD Media impressed us with their SEO heritage and a robust analysis that identified ways of further maximising our Google Grant – Google’s nonprofit edition of AdWords. They have a good track record of using intelligent search marketing strategies to deliver against set goals and the strong work ethic and collaborative approach that we were looking for in an agency.”

We believe that VSO make a real difference to a huge number of people in some of the poorest countries in the world, and are proud to be involved. We also believe that there is plenty of potential for them through search marketing, and our team is looking forward to unlocking this. We are confident that this is the start of a long and fruitful working relationship.”
