The world’s largest wine community, Vivino, made up of millions of wine drinkers from around the globe, has spoken. 54 million opinionated wine drinkers can’t be wrong, right? The 2021 Vivino Community Awards, launched today, reveal this year’s must-sip wines from Australia and across the world and one thing is abundantly clear: Australian’s really love Aussie wine.

Championing approachability over elitism, the Vivino Community Awards are the largest industry awards wholly decided by consumers, not critics. Celebrating incredible wine producers from every corner of the globe and drawing on hundreds of millions of unbiased, tell-it-like-it-is reviews and ratings, these aren’t your typical wine awards, with winning wines selected by the collective voice of the people who drink and love them. This approach departs from typical award programs and conversations around wine that a limited group of elite stakeholders has historically driven.

“The Vivino Community Awards are chosen by the world’s most honest wine critics, our wine-drinking community, whose collective opinion, we believe, is more valuable than that of any expert.” Vivino founder Heini Zachariassen said. “These awards demonstrate that participation in the world of wine shouldn't be limited to any one group of people. There's a passionate and diverse community of wine lovers on Vivino eager to share their opinions and to find great wines to drink.”

Vivino’s community composed this year’s list, by way of their ratings and reviews over a consecutive 12 months. With a focus on love for local producers, Australians can discover a variety of different wines from the country when exploring the 2021 Vivino Community Awards. Winning lists include Australia’s favourite wines with categories including top 20 wines under A$25, A$25-80, A$80-250, top 10 reds under A$50 and top 10 white and sparkling, You can view the complete local list here

“No one is better suited than Vivino to bring wine drinkers of the world closer to the wines they love,” Heini said. “Not all of these wines and producers will be familiar to everyone, and that’s OK. Our hope is that the Vivino Community Awards help you discover your next favourite wine.”

Highlights from this year’s list of winners:

  • If there’s anything we’ve discovered, it's that we Aussies love our Australian wine. Excluding Sparkling, over 95% of the winners in our 2021 Vivino Community Awards are from our very own backyard here in Australia, with the Vivino Community Awards showing evident the appreciation, and love that our local community has for Australian producers and wine regions.
  • Red wines dominate the list, with 74% of represented wines being red. There are just eight sparkling, and eight whites, with no dessert wine, or port represented in the Australian top 60 wines across three different price points.
  • The South Australian Barossa Valley is a powerhouse representing 35% of the entries in the list. That being said, there was incredible representation of 15 Australian wine regions in the list once again showing the diversity and quality of wine from throughout all Australia.
