Manhattan-based visual effects boutique Light of Day is pleased to announce James Collins recently joined the company as the Director of Computer Graphics. Prior to joining Light of Day, Collins served as a designer and CG Director at Nice Shoes. His notable work includes projects for Samsung, which earned him Promax bronze and gold awards.
“Jim has a great imagination,” says Charles Nordeen, Creative Director of Development and Principal at Light of Day. “We are a company built around the artist and the quality of work a group of people can create. As Jim further improves the quality of our work flow, we will continue to tackle more complex jobs.”
Collins has a vivid imagination and an excellent pen, enabling him to materialize his ideas for others to see. He is a versatile artist with years of CG experience, including four years leading the CG department at Click3x, and an extensive background ranging from work in design and animation to lighting and compositing.
“I’m excited to be a part of Light of Day,” says Collins. “Everyone is incredibly talented and great to work with. Rather than isolating and separating artists into various departments, Light of Day provides an environment where everyone gets to work together as a whole team.”
Collins has been a professor at New York University where he has shared his gift and extensive knowledge of computer graphics with his students, and will continue to teach at NYU as he joins the Light of Day team. According to Nordeen, Collins’s years of experience in a classroom, reflects in his interactions with clients, a distinguishable skill for a CG artist. Light of Day found it important that the face of the computer graphics department was not only an expert in computer graphics, but also approachable for clients when creatively working on projects.
