Independent creative agency Venables Bell & Partners announced today the appointment of Katy Alonzo and Gavin Jones as co-heads of its strategy department. Katy and Gavin will partner in leading the agency’s strategy team for VB&P clients, including Audi, Chipotle, Marriott Hotels, and 3M. This move reflects the agency’s dedication to further strengthening its strategic capabilities, and to ensuring that it’s delivering on marketers’ expanding and evolving needs. Katy and Gavin’s core responsibilities include leading integrated strategy services, research and data analytics practices, and partnering with creative teams to ensure focused and inspired creativity.

Katy Alonzo joins VB&P from Mother in Los Angeles where she served as head of strategy, and was instrumental in the agency’s new business efforts and related successes. Prior to Mother, Katy spent four years with Droga5 where she was group strategy director, leading cross-functional teams across the CoverGirl, IHOP, and Georgia Pacific accounts as well as other strategy initiatives for clients, such as Diet Coke, The Clinton Foundation, and Prudential. During her time at Droga5, Katy was a key driver of new business, and was a mainstage panellist at Cannes alongside Allure’s Editor in Chief, CoverGirl’s CMO, and Issa Rae. Earlier in her career, Katy was a Senior Strategist and Strategist at Anomaly in New York where she crafted brand and campaign strategies for clients Budweiser and Marriott Hotels, and innovation strategy for P&G. Katy’s work has earned esteemed industry awards, including Gold Effies for clients IHOP and The Clinton Foundation, and Silver and Bronze Effies for clients IHOP and CoverGirl.
Gavin Jones steps up to his role as Co-Head of Strategy after five years with VB&P. Previously, he led the agency’s Campaign Architecture discipline, and integrated channel strategy efforts which ensure that creative work is always as cohesive as it is strong. He’s developed award-winning ideas and campaigns for VB&P clients Audi, Chipotle, Westin Hotels, Reebok, and 3M, and played a pivotal role in developing the groundbreaking REI #OptOutside effort. Gavin has also developed VB&P’s social, digital, and branded entertainment capabilities, and helped create its feature-length Intel documentary. His broad skill set, which spans communications planning, media and brand strategy, data-driven insights, and social and digital expertise, is the result of 20 years working in leading global media firms, including Starcom and Mindshare, as well as client-side at Barclaycard, and in creative agencies in the US and UK, including Engine Group and Saatchi & Saatchi London, and with clients, including T-Mobile, Toyota, WeightWatchers, P&G, Evian, and Samsung.Venables Bell + Partners, 9 months ago
