In this new commercial spot for the OnePlus Y-Series smart TV, we follow the journey of a young couple as they experience their first months living together.
Director Alexis Odiowei wanted to break away from the conventional feature-based format & explore a more meaningful narrative that resonates with our emotional side. Alexis explains his inspiration for the core concept: “I saw the TV almost as a window into this couple’s world. We see the good, the bad & everything in between. At home, our TVs are often the focal point of the living room. So, I thought, why not switch things up and see these character’s lives from the TV’s perspective instead”.
Collaborating with OnePlus’ in-house marketing team, Vantage Pictures knew they had to develop something unique if they were going to capture the attention of consumers in a heavily saturated market dominated by big brands like LG, Samsung & Sony.
These little snapshots throughout the couple’s relationship felt like universal moments to which audiences of any cultural background could relate. However, focusing on such a ubiquitous story also came with its own challenges... The execution had to feel authentic & believable, as the subject matter is so familiar. The Vantage Pictures team carried out extensive casting in Cape Town, South Africa to find the perfect couple that would bring this story to life. The result was natural chemistry between the two lead characters that speaks for itself on screen.
