On September 21st, Canada’s film, TV, and commercial production worlds welcomed a new creative representation company for cinematographers, the Toronto-based Mantl Reps. Founded by Arlene Evidente, and featuring an initial slate of 5 cinematographers, Mantl aims to enrich the industry by “putting creativity first.”
“Our focus is great creative that will continually excite and inspire all of us at Mantl and the industry as a whole," Evidente states. Mantl’s initial roster of cinematographers includes Jonathan Staav, Stuart Campbell, Viktor Cahoj, Pawel Pogorzelski, and Mikhail Petrenko.
“As we put our initial stable together,” agent Monica Remark explains, “we were looking for cinematographers with unique stories and visions. Each one of them brings something fresh and exciting to the discipline - something we will make sure they'll continue to foster and grow at Mantl. I think the Canadian production world is going to really benefit from getting a better look at these artists.”
“Cinematographers are huge assets who can be called upon to help develop and assist in the crafting of a director’s vision,” Evidente says. “We encourage production companies and agencies to engage our DP's at an earlier stage in the development process.”
Going forward, Mantl will continue to grow its roster, building a community that includes the most talented homegrown and international cinematographers. “We ultimately want to build a roster of artists that is synonymous with the most interesting work in the industry. We're all incredibly driven and excited about the possibilities.”
