A great night at the 10th annual Shelf Awards!

Charley Gray and James Hobbs were the proud winners at last night’s The Shelf 2010 awards. The pair from Lincoln University beat five graduate teams to take the top prize: an oak veneer shelf on which to place their future awards.

Steve Stretton, creative partner Archibald Ingall Stretton, Barney Cockerell, executive creative director, Rapp and Mike Cavers, executive creative director, The Marketing Store were among the 150 industry experts who voted at the event held at Getty Images Gallery.

Gary Sharpen, Executive Creative Director of WDMP and Founder of The Shelf, commented, “It was great that there was such a high standard for the 10th year of The Shelf. What swung it for Charley and James was that they had a real strategic insight to their work. Their Body Shop campaign for instance, showed a mature understanding of the brand and the market”.

Charley and James, from Lincoln University, said of the evening, “The Shelf Awards was a fantastic opportunity for us to meet some really amazing people. It has opened lots of doors for us and we are really grateful for that. Here's to another 10 years!”

The competition was the closest fought yet with Neil Ritson and Stefan van Zogel also from Lincoln University coming a close second. They said, “It was a brilliant event. We would advise any student to get involved if they can – The Shelf is such a good opportunity.”

Casey Bird and Lee Hudson from Gloucestershire University took third place.
