The elaborate campaign was developed by GLOW for 'Origin', a series that boasts directors such as Paul W.S. Anderson
To promote the launch of new YouTube Originals series Origin a laptop, along with Tom Felton - known for playing Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter film series - has been sent into space airing a teaser of the premier, giving viewers a first look of the new series.
The team behind the launch is social and digital agency, GLOW, who worked with Sent Into Space out of London for the stunt. The two produced the below behind the scenes look at what it took to send the laptop into space. A 360 video attached to the rig allows users to interact with the ‘spacecraft’ and surroundings, giving the experience of space first-hand.
Origin, which also stars Felton, premiered on November 14th available with YouTube Premium. The series is from the same producers as The Crown with the opening two episodes directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, most well-known for titles like Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil.
“There was no better way to drive home our hashtag, #LeaveEarth, than to show the teaser from space,” says Robert Lester, associate creative director at GLOW.
Aaron Perez, director of digital and social strategy at GLOW, adds: “When developing marketing strategies for entertainment clients our goal is to develop concepts that extend the narrative of a series beyond what an audience might expect. Landing on this concept, we knew we had hit the mark.”
