TIPi Group has appointed Mike Best as chief growth officer. Best joins the independent digital network in a move to expand the group further and diversify its offering.

The new role will oversee agency expansion and new business, as well as working closely with the senior management team on areas of product development for the independent network.

TIPi Group has rapidly expanded their offering over the past three years and were last week crowned winners of the ‘Corporate Purpose’ award at The Drum’s Agency Business Awards as well as being Highly Commended in ‘Best Digital Agency’ category.

This latest senior appointment at TIPi Group, comes as founder and CEO Ollie Bishop confirms his plans to purposely restrict the size of each specialist agency he opens; remaining true to his founding manta of ‘passion beats scale'.

Bishop explains: “As with any strong relationship, when you spread yourself too thinly, I believe it risks clients not getting the love and attention their brand (and their fee) deserves. This hire of a growth officer is a key one for us as a group as we have very defined vision for the expansion of the business. We want to ensure that we build talent and diversify in line with our clients’ needs rather than allowing our staff or clients to be swallowed up into a huge faceless network.”

Bishop recognises that some would deem purposely limiting your own growth as a questionable and risky move. However, he continued, “I believe this decision genuinely produces better quality work for our clients and breeds a happy, and tight-knit workforce. People and passion will always remain at the heart of our business.”

Best joins the independent network with a wealth of industry experience at both independents and larger network groups. He was previously strategic managing partner at Neo@Ogilvy, spearheading strategic planning on clients such as Nestle, Ted Baker and Sage. Before Ogilvy, Mike was head of planning at 360i where he led the insights, strategy and advanced analytics team that informed data-led strategies for clients such as TUI, Enterprise Rent-a-car and Carphone Warehouse.

Best explains: “The culture and philosophy at TIPi Group is designed to support and foster the development of every single individual across all agencies, meaning that no one gets forgotten and we can realise potential everywhere. In my experience, it is young, raw talent that helps shape the future of any agency and I can’t wait to get stuck in and channel this towards the growth of our existing agencies, as well as the agencies we’re planning to launch over the next 12 months.”

TIPi Group work with clients such as Experian, Unibet and InsureandGo. The independent network currently houses digital performance agency – ROAST, digital creative agency - Kitty, Voice Experience agency - Rabbit & Pork and Scalable Performance Marketing solution – The Market. An additional agency is already in talks for launching early next year.
