Brooklyn-based production company tinygiant is pleased to announce their newest roster addition, director Jenn Shaw.
Jenn is a New York-based filmmaker with roots in the bluegrass of Lexington, Kentucky. A graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, her bold and cinematic filmmaking has both distinctive humor and dramatic instinct. Her emotive storytelling draws out the humanity and identity within the supportive structures created by family and close friends.
Jenn is an award-winning producer and headed up production at ESPN’s Creative Works before establishing herself as a writer and director. Her passion for crafting strong character-driven stories for a variety of platforms is evidenced in her campaigns and content for brands including Facebook, Capital One, KIA, USAA, Complex, the NFL Network, Pizza Hut, and Verizon; as well as in her narrative and documentary films.
Jenn is an alumna of the Fox Network’s Diversity Writers Program and is currently participating in the Independent Filmmaker’s Project’s 2020 Episodic Program with her pilot and series Afro. The short film/proof-of-concept for Afro has already been accepted into more than twelve major film festivals including the 2020 Edmonton International Film Festival and the prestigious Martha's Vineyard African-American Film Festival. She is currently working on a project with Religion of Sports, a creative studio co-founded by Tom Brady, Michael Strahan, and Gotham Chopra. The project deals with the intersection of social justice issues and the power of sports. Jenn is also in development on a female-led sports documentary project with Peabody, Tribeca Film Festival and the Emmy Award winning team at Transform Films.
She has directed several short scripted films exhibiting at major festivals including Hollyshorts, Big Apple, Orlando International Film Festival, Hip-Hop Film Festival, and Hollywood Black. Her film $15 Kicks was executive produced by legendary director Spike Lee, and it earned her a selection in Shoot Magazine’s New Director DGA Showcase and a Black Reel Award for Best Independent Short Film. Other accolades include a nomination for an American Pavilion Emerging Filmmaker Award at the Cannes Film Festival.
“As an artist, Jenn has a captivating vision for developing coming-of-age and sports-related stories,” says Veronica Diaferia, founder and executive producer at tinygiant. “Jenn’s knowledge of production, combined with her natural storytelling ability makes her an absolute joy to collaborate with. We’re excited to have her unique creativity as part of our team.”
“I’m happy to find a home at tinygiant, where everyone’s professionalism and care is next level,” says Jenn. “I’ve been looking to take my work to the next level and so it’s really great to have a place that will provide added opportunity and encouragement - a team that will really champion me and my voice. I’m excited to get to work.”
Jenn was previously represented by The Colony.
