Artist-driven licencing agency and label cruises with royal Caribbean synch placement
Prolific producer and music-for-picture expert Tony Verderosa announced today that his company, Thwak!, has officially re-launched as KBV Music. The new brand emphasises the activities of Verderosa’s KBV Records label, which has established a successful track record of artist development since being founded in 2009.
A core philosophy of KBV’s strategy for breaking artists is synch licensing for TV, commercials, and film. The boutique music company has already won a high-profile placement under its new moniker, supplying Royal Caribbean and agency JWT with the raw rock track ‘Let’s Get It On’ by the KBV Records artist Romans.
In ‘The Sea is Calling’, a fast and seamlessly integrated montage of onboard action is driven forward by ‘Let’s Get It On’. Featuring the buzzing guitars of Craig Bonich (formerly of Head Automatica) and David Gagliardi, Jeremy Lublin’s brash vocals (formerly of We are the Fury), and in-your-face rock rhythms of bassist Bryan Percivall and drummer Oskar Haggdahl, the track is an ideal complement to the youthful energy of ‘The Sea is Calling’.
‘The new radio,’ and agencies, clients, and next-generation labels like KBV are continuing to step up in their role as cultural tastemakers.” “It’s extraordinary for a brand new band like Romans to have a single placed in such a major campaign,” notes Tony Verderosa.
‘Let’s Get It On’ represents the latest in a series of high-profile synch placements garnered by Verderosa. Previous projects of note include his artists’ contributions to campaigns for Microsoft, Coors, Miller Lite, Best Buy, Macy’s, Olay and Land Rover, as well as music supervision and original scoring for the 2011 indie feature film Beware the Gonzo co-starring Ezra Miller, Zoe Kravitz and Jesse McCartney (currently on Showtime). In addition, KBV Music has just finished music clearance and supervision for the new feature film Allegiance, which will be in theaters soon starring Seth Gabel, Shad ‘Bow Wow’ Moss, Aidan Quinn and Pablo Schreiber.
KBV Records was built from the ground up as a label that nurtures artists in a hands-on environment, which recognizes the importance of synch licensing to break and help sustain emerging bands. The label leverages Verderosa’s deep experience as an artist, music director (MTV Video Music Awards), remixer (John Petrucci/Dream Theater) and record producer to create original music that stands out.
“KBV can take a lot more chances creatively than a larger label,” Verderosa explains. “We’re extremely selective about who we take on, our artists get the direct attention of the label leadership, and as a result we can all make new music together very quickly – minus the red tape and layers of approval associated with larger labels.
“The common thread among the people we sign is a passion for music and a true creative spark,” Verderosa continues. “These bands and songwriters may not be household names yet, but they are inspired artists at the top of their game. With KBV Music, I’m experiencing renewed satisfaction in bringing talented artists into a world-class recording studio, producing memorable music, and reaching millions of people through the magic of matching a great song to the right brand.”
