Andrea Love has taken wool and from her needlepoint tells the story of Tulip.
In her newest short film, Andrea Love, in collaboration with illustrator Phoebe Wahl, reinterprets Hans Christian Anderson’s Thumbelina. It’s a fresh take on the children’s classic, exploring risk, adventure and magic.
The eight-minute animation follows Tulip, a tiny child who is born from a flower, along her adventures as she explores the garden and searches for her sense of belonging. From sailing lily pads to flying atop birds, Tulip’s journey is as grand as the characters are rich.
It’s an endearing rendition, where the medium is just as mesmerising as the story. As always, Andrea brings a sense of nostalgia with her textures and a sprightly tone to the stop motion. It’s a wonderful contemporary adaption, and is aptly making it’s world premiere at the New York International Children’s Film Festival.
