REI Brand Film from Thornberg & Forester and BBDO Atlanta Supports Grand Opening of New NYC SoHo Store
BBDO Atlanta launched an integrated cross-media campaign across New York City heralding the December 2-4 grand opening of a new REI store in SoHo's historic Puck Building. The agency created and launched a mobile app that lets anyone who scans the campaign's posters the opportunity to open up and explore virtual landscapes, get information about the grand opening, and to win prizes including a trip for two to Costa Rica.
The agency commissioned director Vi Nguyen and his colleagues from NYC-based design and production company Thornberg & Forester (T&F) to create a :74 documentary brand film illustrating exactly how the mobile app works. "It's important to realize that T&F is a full production house able to realize small and big projects on budget from start to finish, all in house," Nguyen said. "It took four solid days of scouring Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens for suitable locations to shoot. I am very proud of our our portrayal of New York; not as a concrete jungle but as a balanced urban landscape with pockets of nature that are dispersed throughout the city filled with secrets."
BBDO Atlanta's credits include creative director Cabot Norton and senior digital producer Matt Silliman, among many others. Along with Nguyen, who also served as VFX supervisor, T&F's project team includes director of photography Justin Meredith, executive producer Elizabeth Kiehner, head of production Javier Gonzalez, editor Carrie Cassada, and compositors Dan DeGloria and Russ Porchia.
