SHINY, a not-for-profit company supports the very best emerging talent and is committed to creating opportunities for under represented groups.
After a year of celebrating exciting, exceptional work from new directors in London, New York and LA, the SHINY Awards are screening the best and announcing the winners on Tuesday 25th February at The Mill, London. SHINY harnesses a network of over 100 leading VIPs from the commercial production industry worldwide, to help identify and nurture the very best emerging talent. They promote high scoring directors throughout the year via their industry-distributed SHINYlist.
This networking method is a uniquely effective approach to curating and supporting new director talent, and SHINY are determined to encourage diversity and inclusion across the industry. Caroline Bottomley, founder/ MD says: “…We make sure screening shortlists for our regular events and the annual SHINY Awards reflect diversity across six categories, including ethnicity, gender and socio-economic groups. The jury network then makes selections based on meritocracy, after we’ve applied rough quotas…” She goes on to say “…We know we’re not there yet, but we scout new directors from diverse sources and have better representation than most screenings and awards shows as a result…”
All videos considered by SHINY’s jurors are by directors with under five years’ experience. The trophies awarded in London next Tuesday cover branded content, drama, documentary and music videos, and will include Best Recently Signed Director and Best Unsigned Director. Previous SHINY Award winners include Nadia Lee Cohen, John Ogunmiywe and Charlotte Regan, current heavy hitters at Academy, Havas and Knucklehead
As well as keeping up with the best red-hot director talent, SHINY guests can enjoy a friendly and unpretentious pizza and beer awards event, a welcome antidote to the 5* events the ad industry is often associated with. Tickets for the Awards on Tues 25th Feb at The Mill are £45 and available here.view more - Awards and Events
