The Wired World in 2021

ADD TO COLLECTION

Both Haley Tippmann & Bertrand Aznar of Oskar illustrations are commissioned to help illustrated Wired articles

The Wired World in 2021

Every year Wired ask some of the world's smartest thinkers to make a prediction about the next year to come. 2021 will undoubtedly be a year defined by fundamental changes.

Two of Oskar illustrations artists were commissioned to help illustrate some of these inspiring articles. Haley Tippmann for the Business section and Bertrand Aznar for the Environment piece.

"The Wired World annual is an opportunity for us to showcase the best of illustration, and we are always looking for fresh and interesting illustrators to work with. Haley's style caught my eye as her pieces seem to rise off the page, tactile and full of depth, the type of work I want to frame on my wall. Bertrand's illustrations are rich with detail and complexity, I see something else in them each time I look. He has the perfect story-telling style"-Mary Lees, art director at Wired.

"For the environmental section, I wanted to express the positive human aspect of these stories by creating detailed scenes where we see people adopting technologies and behaviours that have a greener impact on the environment. I was inspired by my own experiences of living and witnessing new ways of living, behaviours and measures which are achievable and.... necessary. They are not restrictive but beneficial for the environment and for us. Collectively they can bring people together, reduce our consumption and bring us closer to nature" - Bertrand Aznar.

A robust circular approach to waste will be needed in 2021 to avoid a looming crisis. Waste generation is set to increase by more than 70%, to 3.40bn tonnes by 2050, more than double the estimated population growth rate.

"For the business section, the underlying narrative is how will we move forward in 2021, and what might the world look like. A lot of the topics are things we all have been thinking or talking about this past year, so it was refreshing to read this 'collection' of insights from those in the field.

Having spent most of my time at home like everyone else this year, I drew inspiration from my own environment and neighbourhood when thinking about the setting for these illustrations, and how others may be adapting to the new WFH life" - Haley Tippmann
