The Shelf Awards 2010

The Shelf Awards 2010

Apart from being a very special piece of wood The Shelf is an annual event aimed at helping the best young advertising graduates get a foot in the door of the creative industry. It’s tough out there and trying to get your work seen by the top names in your chosen profession is even tougher. Particularly when you’ve just graduated from university…

That’s where The Shelf comes in. This annual event, now in its 10th year, connects the best creative graduates in the UK with leading art directors, copywriters, creative directors and recruiters. The students get an invaluable opportunity to network and showcase their work to industry experts while said experts get a chance to nab the freshest young talent around (and we mean that in the nicest possible way, obviously.) It’s a win-win situation. Especially as all guests get to judge and score the work on show.

The Shelf was started in 2001 by Gary Sharpen and although it’s undoubtedly a fun, friendly and informal event, the end result couldn’t be more serious. To date, over 100 students have benefitted from participating in The Shelf, either through making excellent contacts, securing work placements or, ultimately, gaining full-time employment. Even better: everyone involved gives their time for free, and students and universities don’t have to pay a penny to enter.

As The Shelf celebrates it’s 10th year, we want it to be the best one yet. With support from Framestore, Getty Images Gallery, Little Black Book, Know and Sue Frost Recruitment, we know it will be.

Please show your support for the future of our industry by being there.

If you’re still wondering about The Shelf itself, the idea is it makes the perfect platform for the winning graduates to show off their future awards. (And yes, it is from B&Q…)

After much deliberation the shortlist for The Shelf 2010 is in.

It wasn’t easy. So many promising graduates. So many committed universities. We wish everyone who applied the very best of luck in their future careers.

So, who did make it this year?

Charles Gray and James Hobbs, Lincoln
Sarah Beatty and Raphael Schils, Bucks
Daniel Patterson, Bucks
Jonathan Rands and Alex Rizard, Sheffield Hallam
Neil Ritson and Stefan van Zoggel, Lincoln
Casey Bird and Lee Hudson, Gloucestershire

All these graduates will be showing off their work at The Shelf this Thursday, 1st July, Getty Images Gallery, London.

This event is free to the graduates, the universities and the guests. If you would like to come along and support the graduates, as well as voting to decide the winners, please get to The Getty Gallery tonight for 6pm – Adress is Getty Images Gallery 46 Eastcastle Street London W1W 8DX

Congratulations to the graduates and their universities on making the shortlist for The Shelf 2010.

This will be a stunning event so please come along, enjoy and see the future of advertising!!
