TCO London managing director Simon Baker on why it is more important than ever that independent voices in journalism remain

We've all seen the news of Vice filing for bankruptcy, this follows the loss of Gal Dem, as well as a host of other much loved titles and media platforms in recent months. Sad times.

With today's fragmented and polarised media environment, I think it is more important than ever that independent voices in journalism remain. So we continue to double down on ours.

TCO London's model aims to leverage our editorial and creative networks to connect brands with areas of culture in a super credible way, while continuing to evolve and develop our media platforms, Huck, Little White Lies and Sandwich. The relationship is symbiotic, between our agency, our titles, our brand partners, and our audiences.

Last week I was proud that in the current climate we were able to launch a completely new digital home for Huck, to continue to position the platform as a destination for premium independent journalism.

Emma Garland, Huck's digital editor, spoke about the evolution of Huck in her open letter, highlighting our focus on telling the stories of the 'people who are carving out spaces for community and creativity and trying to make things better, who's actions might not make it onto the tickers at the BBC or CNN, but are no less significant'.

She gave some examples of Huck's unique role in culture, with the launch of two new editorial series’ this week.

At What Cost’ sees us expanding our coverage of the cost of living crisis.

Spaces Between the Beats’ spotlights music and cultural communities around the world, exploring their stories as they build resilience and find hope in connection.

And we continue to see momentum behind ‘The Outsiders Project’ our celebration of the people increasing diversity in outdoor spaces.

All of this, and the team are still super passionate about putting a physical manifestation of Huck in the the world - for those of you who love the smell of fresh print Huck Issue 79 featuring Mia Khalifa is out now.

Long live indie media.
