The Return of Live Music

The weather may have been utterly disastrous this month, but May 17th brought back a little hope into our lives. After over a year of completely unchartered territory, some things have returned to, dare I say, normal?!

It might sound weird to say as listening to music every single day is essentially my job, but I’ve really missed it this past year.  

I’m sure like a lot of people, my summer felt very odd last year without the thrill of Festival season, no smaller gigs filling up my weeknights or big arena shows to see an artist you booked tickets for months in advance OR, love it or hate it (personally, I’m a huge fan) even the thrill of Eurovision this past weekend being back on our screens (0 points, REALLY?!).

I sometimes feel as though I’m one of very few people (at least, that’s how it feels to me) who actually enjoyed Lockdown. Of course, all three of them were unbelievably tough at times but not only was it a real chance for us as individuals to completely slow down and really appreciate the little things in life, but when else would you get to see our world come to a complete halt.

In retrospect, that sounds quite depressing, but there was something kind of beautiful about seeing iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and Times Square just completely still and seeing tranquil, natural places totally undisturbed by human presence.  

However, that all being said, I cannot wait to be in the presence of live music again! I have my first gig in 14 months pencilled in for July, in a limited capacity, socially distanced venue, which makes me feel incredibly safe and grateful that such measures are in place so we can all enjoy the music again. Personally, I cannot wait!
