We are now in the umpteenth week working from home, and I have forgotten what it feels like to philosophise with colleagues over coffee or to look out of the office window with them on the Berliner Spree. You are missed! But it is nice to see that we are all dealing creatively with the situation and have not lost optimism: there are virtual writing camps, songs and playlists about cohesion and optimism and we meet for after-work drinks via Zoom, Teams or Skype. We all try to do the best we can to avoid isolation.
For me, one thing I am missing most at the moment is the atmosphere of a live concert. It is so very special when a singer or a band, through the power of music and emotions on the stage, radiates an energy that fills the whole room. When the audience is all gripped by the music and an atmosphere fills the air, it is one of the most immediate and powerful moments for togetherness, power and equality.
Unfortunately, this shared experience will not be possible for some time.
But thankfully, there are recordings where the special energy of these live music moments comes across noticeably when watching. For me, one of the singers who manages to spread this energy on stage is LION, and I would like to share that with you. Sure, it's only a video, but maybe it will bring you a moment of joy. It works a bit better like this: switch off the light, turn the volume to maximum and imagine you are in a hall with a hundred people and just a step away from the stage. The band starts to play, and...enjoy.
