Director Tom Speers makes his commercial debut in this heartwarming film for Vodafone Ireland, created by Grey London produced by Smuggler UK.

'The Joy of Connection' follows the story of a grandfather and his granddaughter abiding by an annual tradition even though they are a great distance apart.

Commenting on the spot, director Tom said: "Getting to work on this commercial with the lovely bunch of people in Grey London was a joy. They came to me with a warm and insightful concept for a Christmas ad, and from the first phone call they were enthusiastic about where I wanted to take it, so I have them to thank for putting their faith in me!

"The, mundane, bizarre, low-key familiarity of family bonds, typically void of any ceremony or sentimentality is what real relationships consist of, and while this may not seem like the classic list of ingredients in a Christmas ad, they’re the kinds of things you miss the most when you’re far away from home. So from the perspective of the granddaughter in this ad, the very simple gift of being able to watch all of this characterful nonsense remotely over a video call - unfiltered, unaltered and imperfect, to me felt like the main thing I wanted to focus on in order to have it land with an Irish audience. I felt very lucky to have found such a talented (and brave!) cast to work with on this as well as a wonderful crew. Thanks to everyone involved, and for Smuggler’s support throughout."
