A unique and special group of businesses and individuals, independent agencies are united by a spirit of independence, ideals, and purpose, not only through services offered. Independence is something that is increasingly important in the creative landscape today.
Although the marketing landscape becomes increasingly complex, one thing remains the same - the best ideas come from independent minds.
The Independent Agency Awards exists to celebrate and to promote independent agencies in all their guises. We used this celebration to make sure that we reminded all of our clients, but also to those that we're talking to, pitching to, and targeting our new business approaches to, of why we are independent.
The trophies were presented across 19 categories encompassing a wide range of disciplines and skillsets across the independent marketing industry. A hand-picked selection of judges, experts in their respective fields, assessed each category. Thereafter, a live debate was held, in which 50% of the judges came from client organisations. The entries were evaluated based on their strategy, execution, and effectiveness. After judging, the finalists were recognised for their outstanding work and commitment to independence. The category winners including: STIR, ignis', Agency Space, Mostly Media, AnalogFolk, Thinkerbell, The Barber Shop, jellybean , PUNK Creative, BBD Perfect Storm, Initials, Total Media, Kyan, The Park and Collective then went forward and received their wings for demonstrating how the independent agency sector is valued by clients of all shapes and sizes.
In conceiving the proposition for these independent agency awards. We saw freedom as a uniting characteristic for the independent agency. Free from bureaucracy, free from corporate politics, free from hierarchy. This is freedom, that's the idea of winning agencies earning their wings. And yet in 2021, in a much more existential way, our freedoms have been controlled by something essentially out of our hands.
The standout stories that emerged from the shortlist were many and varied. There was a remarkable number of agencies that managed to pivot their campaign creatively as a result of the challenges thrown up by the pandemic. Demonstrating their agility. There were a number of agencies that showed true collaboration between agency and client, which resulted in some, again, breakthrough and stand out work.
The last 18 months have called for more team effort than ever before. We start again immediately on the 2022 awards program and look forward to seeing a new body of work with some fresh thinking from these exciting agencies.
