LBB’s Adam Bennett catches up with Tango EP Julia Bidakowska-Andren to discuss the past, present and future of the Polish production company
Since 1993, Tango Production Poland has been producing ads. Ranging from the sublime (IKEA’s ‘Nightclub’ spot) to the hilarious (the recent Taylor’s Coffee campaign), Tango’s 3000-project-strong portfolio has earned the company a position of one of Poland’s most respected studios.

So much so that the company has since opened offices in Bangkok, Lisbon, Dubai and Beirut.

To discuss all things Tango, executive producer Julia Bidakowska-Andren spoke to LBB’s Adam Bennett.

LBB> Where do you see Tango right now, and how does that affect your work?

Julia> I feel we are in a quite good place now as we are doing the kind of projects we've always wanted. We work with the best production houses and directors in the world and we develop our film knowledge constantly.

LBB> Is there a particular kind of brand that you'd be especially keen to work with in the near future?

Julia> I would like to be doing some more car commercials, but personally I’m very fond of real life, emotive spots. There is so much out there I would like to be doing!

LBB> Looking back at the work Tango has done, has there been a defining project that really took the company forward?

Julia> We work a lot with MJZ and the calibre of scripts and projects they have given us has really propelled Tango in a direction where we want to be heading.

LBB> You work across so many different countries and languages. Do you try and keep Tango as a Polish agency or are you happy for it to be seen as International?

Julia> We are a Polish production house and Poland as a country to shoot in is our main market. We feel Poland has so much to offer for film productions. We do have offices in other parts of the world as diversity is crucial in our business.

LBB> What makes Tango unique in the Polish market?

Julia> We are one of the oldest production houses in Poland and we have gained a lot and I mean a lot of experience working for years for the Polish agencies and we quickly introduced foreign directors to work for the local market. Also the fact that we have worked a lot abroad has shown us different approaches of how to handle production issues.

We are a small company and try to almost always be the producer on the job that we bid ourselves from the beginning. That gives us a more “hands on” approach. As we are small we are very engaged as a whole production team in every project and we like having strong personal relations with the producers we work with.

LBB> What recent projects are you particularly proud of?

Julia> Just Eat with Tom Kuntz. Also Taylors Coffee with Randy Krallman was great and was even shortlisted at this year’s Kinsale Sharks so it feels great to work as the production service company for these high-profile jobs.

LBB> What does the future hold for Tango - where will you be in five years?

Julia> More amazing work for world class directors. We’re in a really strong place at the moment but we still feel people are unaware of what Poland has to offer production-wise. If we can build on this, and be front of mind for agencies and production companies as one of the best places to shoot as well having a strong reputation as a company, we’ll be happy!
