We wanted to create something that would help us to share our values with the wider world. We sat together to visualise each concept with the team, and started working with illustrator extraordinaire Jakub Cichecki to bring them to life as a series of posters. Printing and displaying our values on the brick walls in the office didn’t feel emblematic of the values themselves – we wanted to do something that truly embodied our philosophy. So we made a children’s book.
Writing a children’s book challenged us to keep it simple. To share our philosophy in as clear and engaging a way as possible. It was important to us that the book would stand alone as a beautiful and timeless story, to be treasured by younger generations of creators. We tell the tale of The Embers, on a quest to learn the answer to the question, ‘Why do we make?’. Inspired by Carl Sagan’s Pale Blue Dot, we underscore the value of remaining forever inquisitive, the advantages to veering from the path, and our responsibility to deal kindly with each other.
