TBWA\London has hired Chris Herbert-Lo (née Herbert), who was shortlisted as Strategic Planner of the Year in 2018, as strategy director. The news comes after another strategist, Marie Conley, joined last month to lead the agency’s AMD account.
Reporting into CSO Anna Vogt and head of planning Michelle Gilson, Herbert-Lo’s new appointment started on 30th September 2019. Hailing from his former role as strategy director at media agency, the7stars, Herbert-Lo is set to enhance TBWA\London’s creative planning department with an added advantage: diversity of thought in the shape of media expertise.
During his time at the7stars, Herbert-Lo led the strategy for Suzuki Cars, which was recognised with a Marketing Excellence award from the Marketing Society, a WARC Grand Prix and an IPA Effectiveness Gold. In between winning awards and making his mark on ad land, Herbert-Lo has also found time to write a sci-fi novel, which is due for publication in the near future.
Herbert-Lo is the second recent stellar addition to TBWA\London’s continually growing strategy team. In August 2019, the department was further strengthened with the arrival of Marie Conley who joined as strategy director after previously working as strategy director at Fold7 and global strategy director MullenLowe Group. Brought in to helm strategy on the agency’s recent big win, AMD, Conley cites the “dream brief” of making the brand famous as one of her key reasons for joining.
TBWA\London’s CSO, Anna Vogt, commented: “Marie and Chris will be bringing a whole lot of brainpower to AMD and TBWA\London. On top that, they are delightful human beings so we are super chuffed they’ve decided to join us.”
TBWA\London’s head of planning, Michelle Gilson, added: “To create the kind of ideas that disrupt culture, our planning function needs diversity of thought. Chris brings to the agency world-class media thinking that’s not just smart but also stunningly creative. We’re thrilled that he and Marie are joining our crew and excited to see what we can achieve together for our clients.”
Chris Herbert-Lo said: "Everyone I've met has felt genuine, full of enthusiasm and ridiculously smart. After turning out highly original campaigns like BECO ‘Steal Our Staff’, it's a really exciting time to be joining the agency. I can't wait to get stuck in."
Marie Conley added: “I’ve worked with Anna before, and heard amazing things about Michelle, so I knew strategy at TBWA\London would be ace. In talking to the wider team, it was also clear that the creative ambition was there. And I wanted to be a part of that. Global Network of the Year helped too. Joining wasn’t a difficult decision, I’ve got to say.”
