Unicef India has launched a lighthearted film with a cartoon lump of faeces that carries a very serious message. Created by JWT Delhi, this four-minute animated video accompanies a frighteningly catchy tune that merges techno and Bhangra style music to highlight the dangers of public defecation. It begins with the lyrics: "First thing in the morning, what do I see? A pile of shit staring at me."
India has the highest number of people that don't use a toilet, a figure that sits at more than 620 million, around half of the country's population. The practice can lead to the contamination of drinking water and cause serious diarrhoea in children, thus leading to more serious diseases.
It's a lighthearted, approachable idea to address a serious issue, much like Dumb Ways To Die so successfully did last year.
