On Thursday, July 8th, .movtogether presents a session on sonic branding led by award-winning music company Syn. .movtogether is a mentorship program connecting underrepresented creatives with top brands, agencies & studios across the country. Essential to the program are free online, cross-disciplinary workshops covering essential skills, ideas, and outlooks in film, media, animation, design & so much more.
During the interactive session, Syn co-founder & creative director Nick Wood, Creative development director Benji Compston and .movtogether mentee Nicolas Maldonado will present an engaging, interactive and insightful look at how music can impact emotions and consumer buying behavior, informed by Syn's 30+ years of creating music and sound for brands.
Members of the industry are invited to join the session, by RSVPing here.
Syn is one a growing number of companies participating in the mentorship program, a six month commitment during which time companies help participating mentees to build their portfolio in their area of interest, hold weekly meetings with support, resources, and insight, and connect the mentee to possible entry-level positions at the end of the mentorship program. Mentors come from all sectors in the industry, from design and live action production to network marketing, agency, and more.
According to mentee Nicolas Maldonado: “Working with Syn through .movtogether has been an eye opening and an inspiring experience. Syn has exposed me to a world of creative and professional possibilities, pushed me to explore my own talents and has helped me envision a new future for myself and my creative practices.”
Nick Wood is a British film composer, record producer, and CEO & creative director of Syn, a music agency and creative resource, which he co-founded with Duran Duran's Simon Le Bon in 1991. Nick has composed and arranged music for over 2,000 commercials, as well as a host of critically acclaimed film and television projects including his work for CNN’s 'Why We Go', for which he won an Emmy in 2017. Most recently Nick composed the music for the CNN 2020 Election, as well as creating the sound of the new Fiat 500e, an electronic car set to revolutionize the automotive industry.
Benji Compston is head of business development at Syn. Based in London, Compston's background is as a producer and musician, who was a founding member of the band Happyness and has, more recently, released music under his solo endeavor, Jelly Boy. At Syn, he is instrumental in developing projects, from sonic branding to original music, with global teams including those based at Syn’s headquarters in Tokyo.
Other sessions by .movtogether include a recent conversation and Q&A with Floyd Norman, the first Black animator at Disney, and an upcoming presentation by Rachel Yoo and Shannon Colson from HIRO on the New Creative Agency Model.
