Jordan Brady and Graeme Joyce screen films at festivals

Limey director Graeme Joyce’s short film “Lifetripper” will screen at the LA Shorts Festival this week. The film made its worldwide premiere and won “Best Drama” at the Super Shorts 2011 International Film Festival in London last fall.

Meanwhile Superlounge director Jordan Brady’s short film, “Harold’s Bad Day”, will make its Los Angeles debut as part of the opening night program at this week’s LA Shorts Fest. The 10-minute, all-digital short made its world premiere at the Slamdance 2012 Film Festival in Park City, Utah in January 2012.

“I'm excited and honoured to show 'Lifetripper' at the LA Shorts Fest,” says director Graeme Joyce. “We have played the film at festivals internationally, but to have it shown in Los Angeles, my home, where the film was conceived, shot and edited is wonderful.”

“Lifetripper” stars Rob Benedict who co-wrote the script with Graeme. The film follows the trials and tribulations of Stan, a middle-aged mechanic, who every day on the bus entertains his fellow passengers with his conversational sense of humor. The film is a thought-provoking look at a man who quietly realizes his potential, as a comic and a human being. The bittersweet film has been extremely well received worldwide, including an official selection at the prestigious CFC Worldwide Short Film Festival this past summer in Toronto.

“Graeme's short film in my view is an excellent piece of filmmaking,” adds LIMEY Owner/EP Andrew Denyer. “Graeme brings an emotional sensitivity to his directing. You can see how he works closely with the actors, and in doing so, obtains performances that in such a short time allow the actors to fully develop their characters and their on-screen relationships through their actions rather than words. All this is aided, of course, by exquisite cinematography and framing that become as much a character in the film as any actor.”

As for Jordan Brady, he’s particularly proud of his film ‘Harold’s Bad Day’. “What a huge validation for Superlounge to have our film included in the LA Shorts Fest,” says Jordan Brady. “As a Director, it's the pinnacle of achievement for my short film.”

“Harold’s Bad Day” is a wry, dark comedy about a well-intentioned teacher with a gambling debt. Written by Screenwriter R.J. Buckley, the film’s cast includes Doug Benson as Harold (“Super High Me,” “Doug Loves Movies”), Nicholas Sadler (“True Grit,” “Fair Game”), Zack Pearlman (“The Virginity Hit”), and Curtiss Frisle (“Terri,” “Aim High”). The film’s script won the 2011 Slamdance Short Screenplay Competition. With “Harold’s Bad Day,” Brady took on the annual tradition in which filmmakers are challenged to make a short film in 99 days with a budget of $99 dollars. A proud Slamdance alum himself, two of Brady’s films “Dill Scallion” and “I AM COMIC” premiered at the festival.

“Harold’s Bad Day” will screen as part of the opening night program of this year’s LA Shorts Film Fest, along with the short film “Derek,” written, produced and directed by Ricky Gervais. The LA Shorts Fest has been accredited by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Award winners for this year’s festival will be eligible for Academy nomination.
