This fashion film for AlphaTauri embarks on a journey defined by impressive innovation and urban adventure. Featuring a cast of young, motivated 'sunseekers', ‘People of the New Sun’ is a film set in an alternative reality in which we witness the rising of a new sun, and how a movement of pioneers chase those first rays to be empowered by its energy. It’s this energy that director Barnabas Wilhelm brings to every shot.
Barnabas takes us on a highly visual journey, in a world that feels similar to our own yet surreal, as these almost Sci-Fi-esque characters march on in their mission to join the AlphaTauri movement.
Energetically charged, the almost visceral experience of the film draws the audience in to also feel a part of the 'People of the New Sun'. Shot in the beautiful city of Cape Town, the film is perfectly framed by interesting locations and backdrops, heightened by the aesthetic of the breath-taking final location, the Taal Monument.
Shot over the course of two days, the FAMILIA team began their day at 3am in order to ensure that they caught those first rays of light from the South African sunrise.
FAMILIA’s recently launched photography roster also came on board for this exciting project. Ollie Ali, up and coming and vastly talented photographer, is known for capturing beautiful images mostly using natural light. The theme, much revolving around the sun and its energy-emitting light, meant that Ollie was really able to embrace and understand this aspect. Finding moments with long shadows, halos of light and orange glows. All captured alongside the film unit.
“Barnabas is a fantastic talent and a great person to work with. His energy and eye brought real cinematic flair to this project. If this was eBay, I’d buy from him again. Ollie is a sensational photographer and a sweetheart: destined to achieve greatness,” said Luke Norton, creative director, Exposure.
