Straight 8 Industry Shootout Announces London Premiere

Presented by the APA, in association with Cinelab London, with design by Rothco (2nd runner up in shootout 2016), and with elevenfiftyfive and ourscreen on board as partners, the straight 8 industry shootout is a global industry battle – a company-to-company showdown – to produce the best film on one Super 8 cartridge, without editing or post-production according to straight 8’s strict rules.

ALL of the films entered were screened for the very first time ever, even to their makers, in Cannes on Friday June 23rd. The Cannes screening rocked, check out the report here.

Now, all the films are coming to London for their UK premiere.

18 awesome companies took up the challenge and have films playing: adam&eveDDB, Blonde, Bö’s House of Visual Arts, Droga5, Glassworks Productions, Hogarth Worldwide, Iconoclast, iris Amsterdam, iris London, iris Singapore, PG Commercial, RPA, Rushes, Staak, String and Tins, WCRS, WK London, 72andSunny

The café opens at 9am and the screening kicks off at 10.00 sharp. The event ends at approx 11:30.

Tickets are £10, only through ourscreen.

All profits will go to the Fireflies Tour for charity Bloodwise.

Advisory Certificate 18.

Ed Sayers, director, and founder of straight 8, said: “The second year of the straight 8 Industry Shootout was a blast, again. If you missed it, or if you didn’t, be sure to join us and the filmmakers and soak up the raw creativity before you start your day.”

straight 8 began in 1999 when director, Ed Sayers, asked friends to have a go at making a short film on one cartridge of Super 8 each - with no waste, at a 1:1 shooting ratio. The films were screened in London’s West End to a packed audience, projecting off Super 8 with the audio playing from cassettes.

From 2003-2012 straight 8 screened at Cannes Film Festival every year, received 100-200 entries for each annual competition and has enjoyed stints on Channel 4 broadcast TV.

In 2016, after a three-year hiatus, straight 8 re-launched with new verve including a stellar jury.

straight 8 agency shootout in London was held in 2003 and 2005 at BAFTA and Curzon Mayfair respectively. The straight 8 industry shootout is an evolution of that and was launched at Cannes advertising festival in 2016.
